I’ve been down this road before. Many years ago I ventured into writing nearly every day for a year with devotional thoughts as I read through the Bible. It was a journey for myself as well as the congregation I was leading at the time. We were reading the Bible together everyday and I would offer thoughts and insights along the way.
This is not that.
In some ways this journey is less structured, but intended to be more disciplined. This time it is for a different purpose.
This journey is for my own enrichment.
Like the trekking I so enjoy, the writing I am doing here beginning today is to discover things along the way; to see what’s out there, or in there, and begin to understand these things, contemplate them and life differently, or at least more completely.
This journey is about me taking what I am experiencing internally and sharing it, yet at the same time, playing with it. (Or maybe vice versa.)
It may benefit others along the way, or at least my family, but specifically it’s for me.
Many years ago my seminary advisor challenged me to continue to write. I was struggling with one professor who didn’t like my writing style. He told me that while my attempt at academic writing may not please the academic-minded professors, my style would match most people I would be communicating with regularly. So he encouraged me to continue writing.
For the most part of my professional life, i.e. ministry, I write regularly, sermons, newsletter articles, Bible studies, copy for events, etc. but there are things within me that I’ve been wanting to write for decades. Now is the time to begin that process.
So here it is, or here it begins… again.
If you’re reading this, I can only hope that my random and scattered thoughts can help you along the way. If you bear with me long enough on this journey, there may be nuggets of wisdom or accidental moments of brilliance that can help you in your own journey.
So let’s set off and see what’s down this path together.
